A MAN got the surprise of his life when Health Minister Leo Varadkar came to his rescue in a medical emergency.
Mr Varadkar, pictured wearing a high visibility jacket and blue gloves in a photo Tweeted by RTE's Fergal Bowers, helped ambulance staff deal with the incident at Edmondstown Golf Club on Saturday night.
It's believed the alarm was raised before the annual captain's dinner after a former club president fell ill. However, the man later made a full recovery in hospital.
A spokesman for Mr Varadkar said he spent three hours with the HSE's National Ambulance Service on Saturday as part of a private visit. "Leo provided manual assistance at the scene. It was a once-off visit but it's something he was very keen to do," the spokesman said.
