Ten years ago tomorrow the world watched in horror at the biggest attack ever on the most powerful country in the world. The devastation was brought, minute by awful minute, to homes right across the world as people stared in disbelief at their TV screens.
We watched innocent people die in front of our eyes.
It changed the way everyone views the world. Our safety was threatened by the knowledge that terrorism can strike anywhere, even in the very heart of a huge, cosmopolitan city.
In the intervening decade many more lives have been lost through wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
All of this has given us time to reflect. We can only hope that lessons have been learned on all sides, and that the awful atrocities will never be repeated, so that the world can become a safer place for all.
