Lawyer apologises to Birmingham Six pair

AN English barrister has unequivocally apologised to two members of the Birmingham Six who sued him for defamation over a pamphlet he wrote in which he alleged they were "mass murderers".

Sir Louis Blom Cooper apology at the High Court, London, for "certain unintended inferences" in the booklet, The Birmingham Six And Other Cases -- Victims of Circumstances. The apology was made to Birmingham Six members Hugh Callaghan and Gerry Hunter.

Seamus O Tuathail, for Mr Callaghan and Mr Hunter, said the matter had been settled on the basis of that apology and other terms not disclosed.

The Birmingham Six had their pub bombing convictions quashed in 1991.
