Late wife inspired single, says Jimmy

LEGENDARY commentator Jimmy Magee said his late wife was the inspiration behind his latest project – realising his own single.

Magee's release aims to raise awareness for motor neuron disease, the condition which claimed his son Paul's life in 2008.

The launch of These Old Eyes Have Seen It All took place yesterday on the 25th anniversary of his wife Marie's death.

"One of my daughters said to me, 'Did you pick April 9 especially for the single release?'" the sports broadcaster told the Herald.

"My wife Marie died on the very same day 25 years ago. She thinks that the single was mammy's idea and all of this is because of Paul so it's amazing how it's connected."

FAMILY

Magee was surrounded by his family at the Aviva Stadium for the launch ofthe single, sponsored by Heatons for the Irish Motor Neuron Disease Association, which charts top moments in Irish history.

Magee (79) has been a staunch support of the IMNDA ever since the death of his eldest son, broadcaster and sportsman Paul (49), within two years of his diagnosis.
