Kids get doodling for Google prize

ONE lucky young artist is in line to win a €5,000 college scholarship and a further €10,000 grant for their school as part of a Google competition.

The talented artist will see their work feature as one of the famous Google Doodles that appear on the search engine's homepage.

A number of celebrity judges will help to choose the winner including Ireland and Leinster rugby star Jamie Heaslip, and artist Don Conroy - who is well known for his appearances as Uncle Don to Dustin, Socky, Zig and Zag on RTE's The Den.

Artist Cora Cummins and Niamh Sharkey, the author and creator of Disney Junior's animated series Henry Hugglemonster, will also be judging.

The theme for the competition is My Perfect Day.

Children will have to use the Google logo as an inspiration and background to create their piece.

The competition closes on January 9.
