TODAY FM presenter Keith Cunningham has admitted he will take a pay cut when he leaves the radio station at the end of March.
But the host, known as KC, said the move is worth it so that he can spend more time with his family.
The 35-year-old yesterday confirmed that he will be leaving the station after more than three years to return to Cork, where his fiancee and two children live.
KC will take over a management role and breakfast slot on regional station Red FM, where he worked for eight years, in April
"The money you earn on a national radio station can't be the same as a regional station," he told the Herald.
"That would never work. But you have to balance it up and it will be worth it when I get to spend more time with my two little girls. I am not going to be doing as well, but once I have a solid income and can support my family, that's the main thing," he added.
Cunningham, who had commuted from Cork to Dublin every week for the lunchtime slot, said he made the decision after spending time at home over the Christmas break. He has two daughters, Robyn (3) and Fia Lilly (eight months) with his fiancee Rachel. "I had two weeks off where I was surrounded by my children and I thought wouldn't it be great if I could do this every day," he said.
A spokesperson for Today FM said the presenter will be missed from the station.
