Former rock star wife Karla Elliot enjoyed a number of luxurious family holidays before declaring herself penniless.
The Herald can reveal how the southside socialite, who's on the housing list and claims she can't afford to pay her former staff, previously spared no expense when it came to spoiling her 12-year-old daughter.
Over the past few years, she has taken her to Hong Kong, Paris, Greece, Australia and Venice as well as Las Vegas, Phoenix, the Florida Keys and the Caribbean.
She whisked Emily Jade off for luxury trips to Disneyland in California and Paris and even hired a white stretch limousine in Miami.
"Karla absolutely dotes on her daughter and always felt that nothing was too much for her. They are as close as a mother and daughter can be," said a good pal.
"Being a single mum, her daughter has always been her main priority and she wants nothing more than to see her happy. But her spending spiralled completely out of control.
"It has become obvious that Karla has been living well beyond her means and it's all coming back to haunt her."
Karla revealed this week in a letter to the Employment Appeals Tribunal that she's now "surviving" on lone parent's allowance and can't afford to pay outstanding wages to her former staff at Sanas salon in Churchtown.
Now she has told pals that she's "in agony" with swine flu, saying she has had it for the past 10 days.
She was looking for advice on her Facebook page -- which has messages of support from her pals -- on how to download movies onto her Mac as she recovers from the illness.
It's the latest setback for the former model and ex-wife of Def Leppard frontman Joe Elliott.
In a case before the Employment Appeals Tribunal in Dublin, she said she was "clearly embarrassed" by her financial position after she said in a letter that she has "no real assets in the jurisdiction".
She also said her name was on the housing list for Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council and she has been "surviving" on social welfare payments and had sought help from the Money Advice and Budgeting Service.
She claimed this was to help finance her daughter's education. It's understood that Emily Jade attends a non-fee-paying comprehensive in south Dublin.
A spokesperson for DLRCC told the Herald that to be eligible for the housing list, an applicant must be deemed incapable of providing accommodation from their own resources. They must also have an annual income of less than €50,000.
Her Churchtown salon, which she bought from reality star Fran Cosgrave's mum Betty three years ago, went out of business in January 2009. Vouchers and package deals were being sold right up until its sudden closure.
The Employment Appeals tribunal issued an order compelling her to pay a former employee a total of €1,236 owed in wages, with more staff members expected to take similar action against her.
