Just the ticket! Nicola's off to Poland as she is named the ultimate fan

TAKE that, boys -- Ireland's ultimate football fan is a Dublin girl.

And the lucky supporter definitely won't be getting a red card from her boyfriend after she scored tickets for Euro 2012 for his birthday.

Nicola Southcott (33) from Tyrrelstown, won Life Style Sports search for the Ultimate Fan, and will be jetting off to Poland this summer with ecstatic boyfriend Wayne Barry.

They'll be at the PGE Arena in Gdansk when Ireland take on Spain on June 14 -- the day before Wayne's 33rd birthday.

Nicola told the Herald that the shock still hadn't sunk in for the loved-up couple, who have been together five months and are both die-hard football fans.

"I'm still shaking," she said. "I've never won anything in my life. Wayne is just like a kid at Christmas."

Wayne had to pull out of a planned trip to Poland with friends after his hours were cut. Seeing how disappointed he was, Nicola decided to enter Life Style Sports search for the Ultimate Irish Fan.

"Wayne was down to a three-day week so he had to drop out of going over with the lads and that really hit him hard," she said. "That's one of the main reasons I entered. So hopefully I'll have my dinners cooked for me for the rest of the year."

Football-mad Nicola was selected by a judging panel which included Irish player Stephen Hunt. Nicola says that football has always been at the centre of her and Wayne's relationship.

"We've got loads in common. One of the things that impressed him when we first got together was how much I knew about football," she said.

Nicola told the Herald that she thinks the boys in green have got what it takes to impress in Poland this summer.

"Ireland have got some absolutely fantastic players. I think we'll definitely win against Croatia. Spain will be our tough one, but I think we can draw."
