Just 8 executives use tax scheme

A CONTROVERSIAL tax break designed to attract high-flying foreign executives has been taken up by just eight people since it was launched in 2012.

The Department of Finance has now launched a six week public consultation process inviting submissions from the public and interested bodies about the scheme and a number of other tax breaks ahead of the budget.

The Special Assignee Relief Programmed scheme was controversial when it was launched in 2012 because it provides for tax breaks of up to €52,000 a year for foreign executives earning €75,000 to €500,000 a year who move to Ireland.
