Jury out in trial of man accused of abusing step-daughters

THE jury in the trial of a man accused of sexually abusing his former partner's six daughters has retired for the night having failed to reach a verdict.

The 52-year-old accused, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has pleaded not guilty to 60 counts of sexually assaulting the girls at their home on dates between 1995 and 2005.

The jury had been considering its verdict for just under two hours on day 17 of the trial at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court when Judge Desmond Hogan told the jurors to suspend their deliberations for the day.
