JOCKEY Eddie O'Connell and horse trainer Jim Lambe have lost their appeals over a challenge to the Turf Club's ability to apply or enforce the rules of horse racing against them.

Their action was aimed at preventing the Turf Club, which regulates flat racing, from making any adverse findings against them arising out of allegations they were involved in irregular betting - a claim they deny.

The Supreme Court yesterday rejected their appeals against a High Court decision on the matter. It also rejected an appeal by the Turf Club against a finding it is amenable to judicial review proceedings.

In 2014, High Court found they had failed to establish any grounds to allow the court rule in their favour.

The action arose out of the Turf Club's investigation into the running of a horse called Yachvili in a race at Downpatrick on September 21, 2011.
