ALMOST three-quarters of unemployed Irish workers are planning to look abroad for work, according to new research.

A total of 38pc said they would seek employment in Britain, 13pc in other western European countries, 13pc in Canada, 12pc in Australia and 7pc in the US.

The number of people seeking alternative employment has risen to 25pc, according to figures released by recruitment firm Hays.

Unemployed respondents were asked if they would take a cut in their previous pay level to secure a job and 83pc said they would.

Half of the unemployed respondents said that they were attending training courses to enhance their skills.

Hays surveyed 242 employers and 1,215 employees across Ireland.
