THE NUMBER of people in employment fell back again in the second quarter of the year.
And the total amount of those who are long-term unemployed increased by 69,700 to 127,000.
The annual decrease of 79,400 or 4.1pc shows the rate of decline in employment is happening at a slower pace compared with the same period in 2009, when a decline of 8.2pc was noted.
Official figures released today by the Central Statistics Office (CSO) said the number of people unemployed in the second quarter was 293,600, up 29,000 or 11pc from a year earlier.
The CSO's quarterly national household survey also highlighted a sharp rise in the number of long-term unemployed.
