Jackson's dad suffers stroke

MICHAEL Jackson's father has suffered a mild stroke.

A spokeswoman said Joe Jackson went to a Las Vegas hospital late on Wednesday night when he had trouble standing up and walking.

The 83-year old was having pains in his head but reports say he was feeling fine and should be released today.

Mayans mark end of an era

MAYAN priests started off ceremonies aimed at marking the end of the current era in the Mayan long-count calendar with dancing, incense and rituals designed to thank the gods.

They performed the New Fire ceremony at a park in Mexico City, but complained they have been barred from performing rituals at their ancestral temples.

The Mayans measure time in 394-year periods known as Baktuns. The 13th Baktun ends around December 21.

Caviar seller's $10m tax scam

A NEW York caviar distributor who evaded arrest for nearly a quarter of a century pleaded guilty to unlawfully importing more than 100,000lb of Russian and Iranian caviar in the 1980s.

Isidoro 'Mario' Garbarino (69) faces up to four years in prison at a January 7 sentencing after admitting to a District Court in Manhattan that he used schemes to avoid high taxes while importing caviar worth more than $10m.
