Jackpot is only hope in gloomy weekend

OUR dismal start to the summer continues this weekend – though tonight's €5.5m Lotto jackpot may lift the gloom for some lucky punter.

A glimpse of summer is in sight in the coming week with a promise of "a lot of dry weather" along with temperatures becoming quite warm in some places.

The dry weather will really only come into play on Monday and Tuesday. Meanwhile, the wind and rain continue.

Tonight, heavy rain will cause spot flooding in some areas with cold temperatures and strong winds.

Things pick up a little tomorrow as the rain gradually clears overnight and into the early morning. The temperatures, too, will pick up and return to normal for this time of year.

There will be sunny spells in most areas but onshore east and southeasterly winds will keep it cooler on the coast.

Tomorrow night will be mainly dry with light winds and some fog inland and by Monday, temperatures will be in the high teens.
