Rory O'Neill has said he believes it will always be difficult for gay people in Ireland to come out.

The Mayo man, better known as Panti Bliss (47), said that although the country has come a long way in its attitudes towards the LGBT community, more work needs to be done.

"I think Ireland has done very well and I'm very proud of what we did.

Rosy

"Is everything perfectly rosy in the garden? No," he said.

"I think it will always be difficult for gay people in Ireland to come out. I think it's much easier now than it was in the past. It will always be hard to be different."

O'Neill will be performing at RIOT as part of the Tiger Dublin Fringe Festival in Merrion Square from September 14 to 24.
