A 39-year-old Irishman has been found dead in New Zealand
Police said the body of Galway man Finbarr Clabby was found in the water in Wellington Harbour (right) at 10.45am yesterday.
He had been last seen at about 1am, police say.
"We believe Finbarr had gone to the Wellington Westpac stadium to watch the rugby final," a police spokesman told the Herald.
"His body was seen in the water in the harbour at 10.45am on Sunday morning New Zealand time."
Mr Clabby's body was taken to the city mortuary where an initial examination was carried out, the spokesman added.
No foul play is suspected, but police said a post mortem will be carried out to confirm the cause of death.
Mr Clabby's family have been informed, and funeral arrangements are being made.
A spokesperson for the Department of Foreign Affairs said it is providing consular assistance to Mr Clabby's distraught family.
He was understood to have been among 36,000 rugby fans attended the Super Rugby Final on Saturday evening.
