irish slave trade horror as 24 rescued by police

Five Irish people have been arrested in the UK in connection with a suspected slavery ring.

Four men and a woman were arrested after 200 officers stormed a Traveller site in Bedfordshire.

Police say that 24 people were kept there in absolute squalor against their will in kennels and horse boxes.

They were taken away for medical treatment.

Police are looking for three more people in connection with the slavery ring. It is understood that the five arrested people are Irish Travellers.

The alleged victims held at the Green Acres caravan park were brought there after being offered work laying tarmac, but were allegedly held captive, forced to seek work and hand over their earnings.
