Irish skills crisis fears

Almost half of businesses feel that Ireland is facing a science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) skills crisis and that there are not enough young people studying maths and science to meet future demand, according to a new survey.

"There is evidently a breakdown that needs to be addressed, as while young people are interested in STEM subjects at schools, the uptake of careers in these areas is low," said a spokeswoman from food and beverage company Nestle, which carried out the research.
