Irish are tops for dreaming about holidays

Bad weather is pushing Irish people to become Europe's top dreamers.

While we like to fantasise about foreign trips, shortage of money stops those dreams becoming a reality.

Irish people dream of jetting off five times a week, almost twice as often as people in the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Spain and Italy.

More than two thirds of us, however, are too cash-strapped to fulfil these dreams.

A YouGov survey reveals that 18- to 44-year-olds are the most likely to be held back by shortage of finances.

The weather is the catalyst for 56pc of people who actually do get away from Ireland on a holiday.

For almost one third of people, wanting to spend time with a romantic partner was the reason for their holiday, putting us way ahead of the Italians and the French for romance: only 23pc in those countries gave this as a reason.
