IRA suspect can go to wedding

A CHEF accused of membership of the IRA will be allowed to travel to Lithuania later this year to attend a family wedding.

The Special Criminal Court granted an application for a week-long easing of the bail restrictions imposed on Thomas McMahon (31).

McMahon and his co-accused Noel Noonan (34) were arrested in February on the N24 near Cahir, Co Tipperary by members of the Special Detective Unit.

McMahon, of Ros Fearna, Murroe, and Noonan, of North Claughan Road, Garryowen are each charged with membership of an unlawful organisation styling itself the Irish Republican Army.

SHEEN SHINES FOR NAVAJO

Actor Martin Sheen has lent his skills for a play by Navajo students in New Mexico.

The Farmington Daily Times reports that the Apocalypse Now and Wall Street star participated in a play called Navajo News, a comedic series of sketches about the Navajo way of life.

GOLDEN DAWN SEEKS NEW LAW

THE extreme right-wing Golden Dawn party is seeking harsher laws for offences committed by foreigners who entered Greece illegally.

A draft law tabled by Golden Dawn also would criminalise denial of "genocides of Greeks" by the Ottoman empire.
