Inflation warning

ONE of Ireland's most prominent business groups has warned the Government against showing "complacency" over the latest inflation figures.

The Irish Small and Medium Enterprises Association (ISME) said there was a danger the new figure of 1.2pc would be portrayed as a positive sign.

"The reality is that Irish businesses continue to be undermined by cost increases in key areas controlled by the State.

"This is putting untold pressure on companies that have cut their own costs to the bone, forcing a devastating reduction in employment," said chief executive Mark Fielding.
