In Brief: Woman denies slashing face

A woman accused of slashing a journalist's face and robbing her told gardai she was giving her first aid.

Ruth Barry (33) of Caledon Road, Eastwall has pleaded not guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to using a blade, robbery and recklessly causing harm to Jennifer Bray, a freelance reporter, and assaulting Neil Callanan.

Her boyfriend, Jonathan O'Brien (31) of Upper Dominic Street has pleaded not guilty to slashing Ms Bray's face with a knife on June 25, 2010.

Comic Russell Brand said he will probe the Dalai Lama about the meaning of life when they share a stage together -- and predicted: "Something crazy will happen."

Murder suspect gives himself in

A man accused of killing three people at a party near a US university turned himself in after a three-day manhunt.

Defence lawyer Susan James said that her office arranged for Desmonte Leonard (22) to turn himself in at an Alabama courthouse after getting word his family wanted her help.

"He was very calm, very tired and very ready to get this over with," she said.
