In Brief: Warrant out in €7k theft claim

A WARRANT has been issued for the arrest of a tradesman who allegedly made a "verbal contract" to carry out work on a man's house, accepted a deposit and never carried out the job.

John McDonald (57) is alleged to have accepted €7,000 up front from the householder without completing any work in the incident seven years ago.

A judge issued a warrant for his arrest when he failed to appear in court on a theft charge.



Postcard shows up 54 years late

A postcard sent from Chicago in 1958 has finally reached its intended recipient.

The Chicago Sun-Times said a postcard arrived at Scott McMurry's Virginia home, more than five decades after his mother sent it.

The postcard was addressed to Clairmont Lane in Decatur, Georgia, where Mr McMurry grew up. But it recently arrived in Elizabeth Fulcher's mail box in Clairmont Lane, South Daytona, Florida.Ms Fulcher posted a picture of the postcard on Facebook to track down Mr McMurry.



Disneyland bus crash kills seven

A BUS carrying dozens of vacationers to Tokyo Disneyland has crashed on a highway, killing seven passengers.

Police say the other 38 passengers and the driver were injured in Sunday morning's accident on a highway in Gunma, north of Tokyo.

The bus crashed into a roadside wall. Steel wall panels sliced the vehicle in half.

Police are investigating the cause. They say all the passengers are believed to be Japanese nationals..



200 fall ill at Children's Day

Mexican authorities say a festival celebrating Children's Day went badly wrong and more than 200 youngsters were sickened after eating rotten food in a village near the Pacific resort of Acapulco.

Guerrero state Health Secretary Lazaro Mazon Alonso says the party was held Friday at a school in Organos village and people began showing up at hospitals the next day for treatment of food poisoning.
