In Brief: Vacant homes insurance alert

Homeowners with empty properties could find they aren't covered if they haven't told their insurance company.

Rachel Doyle, of financial brokers PIBA, said: "Owners of such properties could be in for a nasty shock in the event of something adverse happening to their properties."

The 2011 census indicated that there were 289,451 vacant properties in Ireland.


Waterboys to play Westport

The Westport Festival of Music and Food has announced that The Waterboys will be returning to the two-day festival on June 29 and 30.

They will be joined by folk band The High Kings and Dublin band The Hot Sprockets.

Other Irish and international acts this year include Christy Moore, Elvis Costello & The Imposters, ABC and Squeeze.


Beatles guitar up for auction

A rare guitar played by both John Lennon and George Harrison and worth about e178,000 will go on display in London this week.

The Beatles Vox guitar, made in 1966, will be on display in a London hotel from Thursday to Saturday, before being taken to New York for auction on May 18.
