In Brief: Teen boy caught with stolen TV

A TEENAGER caught putting a stolen TV into the back of a car has been ordered to make a charity donation to avoid a conviction.

Ryan Dalton (18) claimed he was helping another individual and he didn't know the TV was stolen.

Judge John O'Neill ordered Dalton to donate €200 to the court Poor Box and said he would apply the Probation Act.

Dalton, of Rathminton Close in Tallaght, admitted before Tallaght District Court to possession of a stolen 40' flat screen TV, worth €500 at Kiltalown Hill, Tallaght, on November 24 last.

Act now over Syria, says UN

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said the international community needs to act quickly to stem the year-long bloodshed in Syria.

He said it is the most crucial issue facing the world today.

Mr Ban said there was "no time to waste, no time to lose. Just one minute, one hour delay will mean more and more people dead".

The UN says well over 8,000 people have died as a result of Syria's bloody crackdown on protesters.

Jersey Shore is coming back

MTV says it's bringing Jersey Shore back for a sixth season, with expectant mum Snooki as part of the action.

MTV said production will begin this summer in Seaside Heights, New Jersey, and all of "America's favourite housemates" will return.

That includes Nicole 'Snooki' Polizzi, who's engaged and expecting her first child.

MTV declined to offer specifics on how big a part Snooki will play in the show about hard-partying Italian-American friends.

Teen killing is probed

The US Justice Department is to probe the fatal shooting death of an unarmed black teen in Florida by a neighbourhood watch captain.

The agency it will perform an independent review of the evidence and take appropriate action.

Police have described the man who fired the shot, 28-year-old George Zimmerman, as white - his family says he is Hispanic and not racist.
