In Brief: Man in court over home raid

A MAN has appeared at a special court sitting after an elderly woman was tied up and her home was burgled.

John Joyce (50) of no fixed abode but originally from Blanchardstown, Dublin, was brought by gardai to a special sitting of Limerick District Court last night.

He is charged with the false imprisonment of Catherine O'Meara in her home at Sandy Lane, Boher, Co Limerick last Thursday. He is also charged with burglary of cash and two rings to the value of €1,241.

Judge Aeneas McCarthy remanded Joyce in custody to appear again tomorrow.
