In Brief: Man arrested in drug seizure

A MAN is being questioned after the discovery of a cannabis factory in a house in Co Wexford.

About 200 plants and cultivation equipment were seized when gardai were called to a property in Chapelwood, Kilmuckridge, yesterday.

Gardai said the plants have an estimated street value of €240,000.

A man in his early 60s was arrested at the scene and taken to Enniscorthy Garda Station. He can be detained for up to seven days.



A POWERFUL bomb apparently rigged to a vehicle exploded during rush hour along a main road in a volatile southern Philippine city, killing at least six people and wounding more than 30 others, officials said.

Firefighters and ambulances arrived at the chaotic scene in Cotabato city, where witnesses saw at least four people bloodied on the pavement.

Senior Superintendent Rolen Balquin said at least 33 people were wounded by bomb shrapnel and flying debris from vehicles.



A HOTEL is offering a package that includes a one-night stay in a pop-up inflatable room that can be lifted 22ft in the air on a scissor-lift mounted on a van.

Architectural artist Alex Schweder created the room for the Biennial of the Americas arts, culture and idea festival in Denver, US.

It has a chemical toilet, shower, sink, inflatable bed and living room.

The package costs US$50,000 (€37,000) a night.



A WILDFIRE fanned by strong winds raged near Athens, damaging homes and sending residents fleeing, officials said.

Witnesses said the blaze yesterday had damaged at least three homes at a hamlet by the town of Marathon – the site of the historic 490BC battle between Athenians and Persians about 40km from the Greek capital.

"The flames have reached homes, but we don't know yet how many are threatened," a fire brigade official explained.
