In Brief: Creche worker abused girl (6)

A FORMER creche worker has been sentenced to two years for sexually abusing his six-year-old cousin.

The 23-year-old thought she was asleep as he touched her, but the child was fully aware of what was happening and later told her mother.

Detective Garda Darren Kearns said that when the girl's mother came home, the victim said her cousin had scratched her when he was 'playing' with her, before showing her a mark to her genitals. The gardai were notified.

The accused pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to sexually assaulting the girl in a Dublin home on July 23, 2011.

Judge Martin Nolan said the crime deserved a jail term and imposed a two-year sentence, with the final 14 months suspended.

Fuel tanker blast kills 2

A fuel truck exploded in the Saudi capital Riyadh today, engulfing buildings and cars in flames and killing at least two people.

The death toll could rise as rescue crews picked through the charred vehicles and rubble in an industrial area in the city's eastern district. Columns of smoke could be seen rising from scene.

There was no immediate suspicion of terrorist links: witnesses said the fuel tanker exploded in a traffic accident under a bridge.
