In brief: Boy 'stabbed guard in neck'

A SECURITY guard was stabbed in the neck by a teen boy when he tried to stop a shoplifter, a court heard.

The 16-year-old has been charged at the Children's Court with assaulting the man and production of a knife, at a Centra shop, on Sundrive Road, south Dublin.

Garda Thomas Tighe said it was alleged the guard had stopped a girl stealing a bottle of wine from the shop. The boy "came around the corner and lunged at the member of security staff", the court was told. The boy was remanded on bail to appear next month.
