In Brief: Anti-missile tests in Israel

ISRAEL successfully tested its newest anti-missile system in a step towards what the country calls its "multilayer missile defence".

The David's Sling system successfully passed its test, shooting down its first one in a drill in south Israel.

The system is designed to intercept projectiles with ranges of up to 180 miles.

David's Sling, also known as Magic Wand, is primarily designed to counter Hezbollah rockets in Lebanon.

China in map passport row

VIETNAMESE authorities are refusing to stamp Chinese passports featuring a map that includes disputed islands in the South China Sea as Chinese territory, instead issuing visas on a separate piece of paper.

Vietnamese authorities fear that by stamping the controversial passports, the government would be recognising Beijing's claims to the disputed territory.

The Philippines and India have also protested.
