In brief: €500k cannabis seized at port

A MAN in his 60s remains in garda custody today after customs officers seized over €500k worth of cannabis.

The suspect was arrested at Rosslare Europort when the drugs were discovered concealed in the tyres of a truck which was part of a container-load arriving into Co Wexford on a ferry from France.

The drugs were discovered following a scan of the container by Revenue's mobile scanner.

Yesterday's bust was just the latest major success for customs officers based in Rosslare. The arrested man -- who is from Co Kildare -- is being questioned at Wexford Garda Station. He is expected to be charged later.

Terror over 'jet engine on fire'

Passengers have told how they saw flames shooting from their jet's engine before it was forced to make an emergency landing.

The Emirates Airbus A380 started shaking after take-off from Sydney, Australia yesterday and there was a loud bang. New Zealander John Fothergill said: "I thought it was lightning but then we saw flames come out of the engine. The whole interior lit up."

Emirates denied the claims. "There was no fire, no flames, no smoke," said a spokeswoman.

Wizard €377k for Judy dress

The faded blue gingham dress worn by Judy Garland in The Wizard Of Oz has sold for $480,000 dollars (¤377,000).

Auction house Julien's Auctions says the pinafore fetched the highest price of any item during a two-day auction of Hollywood memorabilia that attracted bids from around the world.

Steve McQueen's racing jacket sold for $50,000 (¤39,00), as did a purple skirt worn by Marilyn Monroe while filming River Of No Return.

Holby star tells of stalker fear

Holby City star Rosie Marcel has told how her new man has brought joy back to her life after a campaign of terror by a stalker.

The 35-year-old, who plays ice-queen surgeon Jac Naylor, says she was close to a nervous break-down. But she told Hello! that gym owner Ben Stacey helped her to get her life back on track.
