The ice-bucket challenge social media craze, which has raised millions for motor neuron disease research, has also led to a huge uplift in sales of ice.
Requiring participants to have a bucket of freezing cold water dumped over their heads, the challenge has become an internet sensation.
Now, Tesco Ireland has pledged a donation of €10,000 to the Irish Motor Neuron Disease Association following the increase.
Tesco reported sales of 66,000 bags of ice over the last two weeks, equating to almost 8.5 million ice cubes.
The uplift started last Friday and continued into this week, with a 63pc rise on Monday. Tesco's Christine Heffernan said: "We have noted a direct uplift in sales of bags of ice." Additional stock has gone into stores.
