IBI's new chairman

The Independent Broadcasters of Ireland (IBI) has appointed John Purcell as chairman.

In his new role, Mr Purcell will advocate and promote the role of independent radio in Ireland.

Mr Purcell is chief executive and shareholder at KCLR 96FM and is a veteran of the radio industry, having been a founding director of Anna Livia radio station in 1991.

The new IBI chairman is also a director of national radio station, Newstalk.

A total of 70pc of the population tune into independent radio on a daily basis -- which translates into week day figures of 2.5 million listeners.
