Hollywood star Pierce Brosnan has revealed he lost his beloved Aston Martin when his Malibu home went up in flames in February.

An estimated $1m worth of damage was caused, but the Navan native (right) said he was thankful to be alive.

"I had just done a week of meditation classes, so I was in this Zen zone of reflection when the sh*t hit the proverbial fan," he told Details magazine.

"There were paintings, first edition books - James Joyce's Ulysses - the Aston Martin. I looked into the garage, and the car cover was engulfed in flames.

"In that nanosecond, you think, 'Do I try to save it?'... But it's a car.

"You take the blow and move on, give thanks you're alive," he added.

Pierce (62) lives at the mansion with his wife, Keely, and their sons, Dylan and Paris.

The former James Bond star has had a busy few months - with his new movie No Escape hitting cinemas this week.

He also recently finished filming revenge thriller I.T. in Dublin.
