'I HAVE A BURNING DESIRE TO REPRESENT MY COUNTRY AGAIN'

RECEIVING a silver medal at the World Games in Croke Park was "the biggest day of my life", says Jonathan Kilpatrick.

It made such an impact that the 27-year-old wants to do it all again. "My goal is to represent my country again in the World Games in Los Angeles in 2015," he said. Ten years on from the 2003 Games in Dublin, Jonathan says he still remembers how "I couldn't believe I was representing my country. I saw Nelson Mandela and all the fans cheering for Ireland." When his team won a medal, "it felt amazing".

Jonathan has been playing basketball since he was seven years old. He rides horses, plays golf and sails with the Royal St George Yacht Club in Dun Laoghaire.

His intellectual disability has not stopped him from sitting his applied Junior Cert and Leaving Cert exams.

He is determined to secure a place on the Irish basketball team.
