'I fear Maura is overwhelmed by her fame', says Doireann

Doireann Garrihy believes former Love Island star Maura Higgins is overwhelmed by her new-found stardom.

The 2FM Breakfast host is addicted to the ITV series and believes that the current season missed out on a larger-than-life character like Maura.

While the Co Longford starlet stole the show before getting voted off ITV's Dancing On Ice, Doireann believes she is not showcasing her vivacious personality.

As a result, the DJ fears the Ballymahon bombshell may be overwhelmed by her international fame and hopes that the right people are looking out for her.

"I think it is a massive risk to do that Love Island. Greg was one of the lucky ones who came out if it well, but that is because he stayed in Ireland," said Doireann.

"And yes, Maura was flying it on Dancing On Ice. But I kind of feel like we haven't seen the real Maura that we saw in the villa.

"I just feel like something is not right and I just hope that she is not totally overwhelmed by fame and as a result is afraid to be totally herself.

"The brilliant personality who shook up that villa is not the way we see her now - and that can happen."

Maura has become a regular guest on the 2FM Breakfast show thanks to Doireann's impression of the Longford star.

And the pair have chatted on air when Maura was a guest on the show just weeks after leaving the villa.

Doireann believes that Maura could easily be as big a reality TV star as Gemma Collins as long as she takes care of herself mentally.

"I thought she would be the next Charlotte Crosby or Gemma Collins who doesn't care at all," said Doireann.

"But I think, and she has said it herself, that she is totally overwhelmed.

"I still think she is a total legend but I would love to see her doing a reality TV series where she is allowed to be herself.

"Because she is this rare talent and she lights up any show or series she takes part in and that should be protected."
