The father of Olympic gold medallist Katie Taylor is training three professional boxers signed to a gym linked to cartel boss Daniel Kinahan.
Coach Pete Taylor was seen this week arriving at Bray Boxing Club with heavyweight Sean 'Big Sexy' Turner and new pro Gary Cully. They are signed to MTK Gym, a firm with connections to crime boss Daniel Kinahan.
MTK, formerly known as MGM, is also not sanctioned to host fights in Ireland due to safety concerns following the Regency Hotel shooting last year.
Bray Boxing Club was given €300,000 State funds in Katie Taylor's honour.
Mr Taylor, who is no longer involved with his daughter's career, is estranged from wife Bridget and has a relationship with gym fanatic Karen Brown.
When approached by the Sunday World in relation to training the boxers, Mr Taylor said: "It's my club. I own it. I can train who I want. It's all boxing."
Mr Taylor added he was coaching three MTK boxers - Turner, Cully and David Oliver Joyce - for free.
It is not suggested that Pete Taylor or any of the boxers he coaches are involved in organised crime.
Bray Municipal District Council, which owns the building and funded the refurbishment, is now said to be investigating its use by MTK fighters. District Administrator David Forde told the Sunday World that the council was not aware the fighters were being trained at the gym.
"It is a community facility for the community and not for private enterprise," he said.
"We currently have a licensing agreement with Bray Boxing Club for their use of the gym, but we are currently drawing up a lease.
"This will come before members of the Wicklow County Council for disposal and there is no doubt but this matter will now have to be discussed. We were absolutely not aware professional boxers from MTK were training there."
In 2015, Taylor registered a firm entitled Bray Boxing Company, but has not filed accounts with the companies office.
Bray Town Council secured €190,000 from the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport and invested €100,000 from its own resources to upgrade Bray Boxing Club following Katie's Olympic success.
