Hypocrisy on the buses

MEMBERS of the Dail went out with a bang met last week before they broke for the summer holidays -- or to be more precise with the announcement of a €100 annual household charge.

However, they also sneaked in something else.

From now on, ministers will be able to use bus lanes while on official business. It appears that this new measure went completely under the radar. When the Fine Gael/Labour coalition came into power, they said they would usher in a new era of openness and transparency. Of course, this one little act shows that a leopard never changes its spots -- and it will infuriate members of the travelling public.
