Hundreds hit by ESB power cut

MORE than 1,100 homes and businesses in a Dublin area suffered a blackout today.

ESB crews were on hand to investigate the cause of the outage, which occurred in Mala-hide village this morning.

The fault came on one of the coldest mornings of the winter so far.

"There are 1,100 people without power in central Malahide," a spokeswoman told the Herald.

Power had been restored to all customers by 8.41am. The ESB identified a cable fault on the line which caused the outage.

She said it was probably related to weather conditions.

It was not a planned outage, meaning that it came about as a result of a fault in the system, the spokeswoman added.

"It's a fault. The crews are there and they are working on it and hoping to restore power. It seems to be in Malahide village," she said.

The affected substation takes in the Marina and parts of the village.
