HSE sex assault probe go-ahead

A MAN charged with sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl has failed in his High Court bid to stop a separate HSE investigation.

Mr Justice John Hedigan ruled the HSE should be allowed to conduct its own inquiry "without having to look over its shoulder".

The man, who is in his mid-30s, is due to be tried in the Circuit Criminal Court for sexually assaulting the girl after she passed out on drink.

Life sentence for KKK killer

The leader of a Ku Klux Klan group pleaded guilty to killing a woman -- an erratic recruit who a witness said yelled ,"I want out" the day after her initiation into the white supremacist group.

Raymond Foster (49) was sentenced to life in prison for second-degree murder.

Cynthia Lynch (43), from Oklahoma, was shot and killed in November 2008, in St Tammany Parish, 50 miles north of New Orleans.

Politicians lose Dominica seats

The House speaker announced two opposition politicians in Dominica surrendered their seats in parliament because they failed to attend three sessions in a row.

Opposition leaders boycotted parliament, alleging fraud and other irregularities in December elections won by the ruling party.

International observers said the vote was free and fair.

Rare oryx calf born in US zoo

The US National Zoo said a scimitar-horned oryx was born at its conservation centre in Virginia -- the zoo's first such birth in 13 years.

Scimitar-horned oryx are extinct in the wild. They are known for their curved horns that can be several feet long. The female calf was born on April 9.

Mexico probes pupil murder

A Mexican official said police were investigating the death of Texas high school student as a homicide.

Elisabeth Mandala and two Mexican men were found dead in a crashed car near Mina, a town in northeastern Mexico. Autopsies showed all three died from severe blows to the body and head.
