Hopes for end to piggery row

THE owners of a piggery who have been facing prison over alleged failure to clean up their facility may resolve their dispute with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in the next month, a judge was told yesterday.

Last July, the High Court gave Rory and Monica O'Brien a chance to carry out work required at their piggery in Killickane, Mitchelstown, Co Cork, under a court order made in June 2011.

Yesterday, the EPA returned to court to say that matters still had not been complied with and it was now asking for the attachment and committal to prison application to be considered again.

However, following discussions, the case was adjourned for four weeks.
