Homes on the rise

THE amount of new housing units under construction rose by almost a fifth during the first three months of the year, new statistics show.

The Construction Industry Federation (CIF) said that a total of 965 units were started around Ireland in the first quarter of 2013, up 159 units or 19.7pc from the same period in 2012.

The latest CIF Housing Statistics Bulletin shows the level of house building has particularly increased in Dublin and Galway.

There were 110 units start in Dun Laoghaire Rathdown, 47 in Fingal, 28 in South Dublin and 69 in Dublin City.
