HOMELESS charity The Peter McVerry Trust has welcomed an order issued to local authorities to ringfence 50pc of housing for vulnerable groups in Dublin.
The Minister for the Environment, Alan Kelly issued the order in recent days following his commitment to achieving the target in the multi-point action plan to tackle homelessness announced before Christmas.
CEO of Peter McVerry Trust, Pat Doyle said it was "very significant" for people in homeless services.
"In the last 12 months the numbers in homelessness have increased while the barriers to exiting homelessness have grown more challenging," he said.
"The introduction of this new rate on the Minister's instruction will see allocation rates rise from 10pc to 50pc in Dublin."
