His Twitter predictions proved to be spot on

GERRY Ryan declared that sites like Twitter were set to become the modern broadcast medium, in a prediction that was proven eerily true within minutes of his death.

Thousands of people learned of the 2FM star's tragic passing over the internet long before the news was officially confirmed by RTE. Prime Time presenter Miriam O'Callaghan (right) was asked by station bosses to remove a tribute to the star from Twitter as word of Ryan's death spread across the internet.

But strangely, in an interview for Griffith College publication Fusion Magazine, which Ryan did just weeks before his death, he said: "Radio is dead, television is dead, media is dead."

He said that social networking, music and information "is going to come out of one pipe".
