High-risk teen is denied bail

A teenage fugitive described as a violent high-risk offender has been denied bail at the High Court pending a hearing against his extradition to the North.

Casey Morgan (18) is wanted after he failed to return to his designated accommodation and left the jurisdiction in breach of his licence conditions in March.

Morgan, who has 57 previous convictions, was sentenced to three years in a young offenders' institution with a five years post-release licence after an attempted robbery of a chemist in Downpatrick, Co Down, on November 24, 2008.

Pope John Paul II has moved a step closer to sainthood.

A Vatican official says a commission of theologians approved a miracle attributed to his intercession, clearing a key hurdle. The case now goes to a commission of cardinals and then Pope Francis.

John Paul's canonisation is possible in autumn to coincide with the 35th anniversary of his election.

BATTLE OF SOAPS IS FAMILY AFFAIR

THE ratings war between EastEnders and Coronation Street will become a family affair when actor Jamie Lomas, whose wife Kym plays Corrie's Michelle Connor, arrives in Albert Square.

The former Hollyoaks star will join the BBC One soap in summer playing recovering alcoholic Jake Stone.

Kym, a former member of Hear'Say, has been in Coronation Street since 2006.

Lomas said: "I'm over the moon to be joining the cast of EastEnders. I have admired the show for many years and I can't wait to start working with such a strong cast."
