Heroin charge man faces trial

A MAN charged with supplying heroin has been sent forward for trial. Charles O'Connor (33), of Deanstown Park in Finglas, was allegedly caught with the drug after he was stopped by gardai.

He is facing trial by judge and jury in the Circuit Court where the penalties are more severe after the DPP ruled the matters too serious for the District Court.

O'Connor appeared before Blanchardstown District Court charged with possession of heroin as well as having it for sale or supply at Ratoath Avenue, Finglas, last June 7.

Judge David McHugh gave O'Connor 14 days to provide to the State details of anyone he proposed calling as a witness.

Twelve migrants were found dead and 15 rescued after a boat capsized and sank in western Greece. The coast guard continued searching for more possible victims and survivors.

The incident occurred off the coast of Lefkada, an island in the Ionian Sea, and the migrants were presumed to have been headed to nearby Italy from the western Greek mainland.

Marine Ministry officials said the migrants were aboard a plastic boat that was seven to eight metres long. The survivors were being taken to hospitals for observation.

IT IS almost show time for Comet ISON. For months, all eyes in the sky have pointed at this comet that's zooming toward a blisteringly close encounter with the sun.

The moment of truth comes on Thursday when the comet may fry and shatter, a victim of the sun's incredible power. Or it might endure and put on a spectacular celestial show.

If it survives, it will be visible with the naked eye through December .
