Hero mum can't remember blaze

THE heroic mother who saved her three children from a fire that gutted their home in the early hours of Christmas Day is continuing to recover today.

Brave Vivienne Kellet (28) has told her family she can't remember anything about the terrifying blaze after she knew that her children were safe.

Her children -- Ellen (10), Thomas (3) and Eric (six months) -- returned to their extended family yesterday to celebrate their Christmas.

Last night Vivienne's mother Joan said she was doing well but could not remember anything after the incident.

"She remembers getting the kids out and the fireman talking to her but nothing after that," she said.

Grateful

The mum-of-three has recovered consciousness and was last night resting in Tallaght Hospital surrounded by family in the aftermath of the blaze at their house in Knockmore.

"She is grand. I brought the babies up to see her and she was delighted to get them home (after their stay in hospital on Christmas night)," said Joan.

"The children are perfect, they are buzzing around. We had a lot of visitors today and they were opening all their Christmas presents.

"We have them home now and all four of the family are safe. As my sister said last night our Christmas can start now."

The fire broke out in the Kellet home at about 3.30am on Christmas Day -- the exact cause remains unclear.

But Vivienne acted quickly and managed to pass her children through an upstairs window to neighbours outside who had come running to their aid.

Since their discharge from the ward, the children have been given new clothes and presents by family and friends.

"The firemen went up to the hospital on Christmas night and had Santa Claus for the three of them and the night nurses put presents beside their beds for when they woke up," said Joan.

"As my niece said today, Irish people are so giving when something like this happens."

The Kellet family say they are eternally grateful to the emergency services, hospital staff, neighbours and family for ensuring the fire did not lead to a Christmas tragedy.
