'He must never be freed, he will never change evil ways'

KILLER rapist Adrian Bayley must remain behind bars for the rest of his life, Jill Meagher's family have said.

Speaking to the Herald earlier today, Jill's mother-in-law Joan Meagher said it was not possible that Bayley could ever change his evil ways.

Commenting after Bayley was told he must serve a minimum term of 35 years before he can apply for parole, Joan Meagher said that no matter how long the murderer and predator spent behind bars he would always be a dangerous man.

"Bayley will be an old man when he tries to get out of prison, but I don't think he's ever capable of changing," said Joan.

"He should have been serving time when he did this to Jill. He should have been serving time for all he has done in the past.

"He did psychiatric courses and then just got out.

"Did the authorities just take his word for it that he was reformed?" she asked.

While Joan is "delighted" with the sentence Bayley received, she fears there are more like Bayley who have slipped through the net in the Australian justice system and are potentially just as dangerous.
