Have you seen €800k of jewellery stolen in daytime home burglary?

A golden treasure trove stolen by burglars will feature in a nationwide appeal on television tonight.

Gold jewellery and gems worth more than €800,000 were grabbed by thieves who smashed open a safe in a daytime burglary at a private home.

Photographs of the valuable items, including family heirloom, will be broadcast during the Crimecall programme on RTE One at 10.15 pm.

No-one was home when the thieves forced open a side window in the house in the Liffey Lawn estate in Clane, Co Kildare, on November 14 last.

The jewellery belonged to the owners of the house, a retired professional couple, who also live overseas.

The son of the couple lives in the house permanently but he had left the house at 7.15am to go to work in Dublin. He returned home at 7.15pm to find his home had been ransacked and robbed.

Two of the jewellery sets stolen were worth €100,000 each. Also taken was a 30oz Nova Scotia Bank Gold Certificate, valued at €60,000.

Gardai believe the gang had been watching houses in the estate for several days before the burglary. They are trying to trace a van that had been seen there during that time.
